Ahmedabad DEO orders St Xavier’s Loyola to refund excess fees collected from students
The District Education Officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad has issued a written directive to St Xavier’s School, Loyola Hall, to refund the excess fees – ₹16,589 from each student – for the academic years 2024–25 and 2025–26.
According to the DEO, during an on-site inspection conducted on July 11, 2025, it was found that the school had collected more fees from students than what was approved by the Fee Regulation Committee (FRC).
As a result, a show-cause notice was previously issued to the school. The school’s explanation in response to the notice was deemed unsatisfactory, leading to the written directive.
The school stated that it had appealed against the FRC-approved fees to the Fee Revision Committee. However, since the appeal is still pending and no final decision has been made, the school is required to comply with the existing orders issued by the FRC-Ahmedabad Zone.
Therefore, the school must refund the excess fees collected during the academic years 2024–25 and 2025–26. The school is also required to provide all related details of the refund process to the DEO’s office within seven days. If the school fails to comply with this directive, legal action will be recommended, and a report will be sent to the Ahmedabad Zone Fee Committee.
Following the DEO’s order, the school may have to refund several lakhs of rupees to parents.
