Ahmedabad’s Kalupur overbridge to remain closed at night amid bullet train work

The Ahmedabad Traffic Police has announced a night time traffic diversion on the busy Kalupur Bridge, also known as Shri Manubhai Parmar Overbridge, from May 22 to May 25, 2026.

The bridge will remain closed for all vehicles every night from 12 midnight  to 6 am due to bullet train construction work between Sabarmati and Vatva. Officials said heavy segments will be installed on the bullet train corridor passing through the bridge area.

For safety reasons, a 500 meter stretch from the end of Kalupur circle bridge to the small circle on Kalupur bridge will remain completely closed during these hours. The Ahmedabad city police issued an official notification regarding the temporary closure and traffic management plan. Traffic personnel will be deployed at major junctions and diversion points to guide motorists and manage vehicle movement during the operation hours.

Authorities said the restrictions are temporary and have been imposed to ensure public safety during the installation work on the bullet train corridor. 

The traffic police issued alternative routes 

Vehicles coming from Naroda road and Saraspur towards Kalupur Circle can use the route through Saraspur Circle, Nutan Mill Road, Vorana Roja, Dr. Ambedkar Flyover (Chamunda Bridge), Civil Hospital Road, GIDC Girdharnagar Crossroads, and Babu Jagjivanram Bridge via Idgah Road. Motorists travelling from Rakhial and Gomtipur towards Kalupur Circle can go through Saraspur Circle, Gurdwara Road, Chartoda Cemetery Road, Rakhial Crossroads, Murga Circle, Apparel Park Metro Station, Anupam Cinema Road, Anupam Bridge, and Kankaria Road.

Traffic moving from Relief Road and Delhi Gate towards Naroda and Saraspur can travel from Kalupur Circle through Fruit market, Panchkuva, Idgah Road, Babu Jagjivanram Bridge, Girdharnagar intersection, Civil Hospital Road, Mohan Cinema, Chamanpura intersection, and Ambedkar Bridge. Vehicles travelling from Astodia and Raipur towards Rakhial can use the route through Murga Circle, Kagdapith Police Station, Vanijya Bhavan, Kankaria Road, Anupam Bridge, Apparel Park Metro Station, and Sukhram Crossroads. 

Officials added that traffic moving between Naroda GCS Hospital Road and Saraspur Gomtipur will continue to pass over Kalupur Bridge.

The Ahmedabad Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to follow diversion routes and cooperate during the bullet train construction work.
