A 19-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death following a dispute linked to a social media post near Ayesha Masjid in the Juhapura area of Ahmedabad late on Wednesday night, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Salik Imtiyazbhai Sheikh, a resident of Javeriya Flats, opposite Sahista Flats in Juhapura. As per the complaint lodged by his brother Tahir Imtiyazhussen Sheikh (32), the incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on April 22.

Police said the altercation stemmed from an earlier dispute during the month of Ramadan between the victim and one of the accused, Faisal alias ‘Pachi’ Pathan. The victim had reportedly posted a story on Instagram regarding the dispute, which is believed to have triggered further hostility.

According to investigators, the accused — Rehan alias ‘500’ Pathan (who has been apprehended), along with Faisal alias Pachi Afzalbhai Pathan and Faizan alias Faizu Afzalbhai Pathan — allegedly called the victim to the spot near the mosque and confronted him. The situation soon escalated into a violent clash.

“The accused assaulted the victim in public and one of them inflicted a fatal knife blow to his right side. He succumbed to his injuries,” a police official said.

During the attack, another man, identified as Kasib Saiyed, was also injured. Police said he was allegedly attacked with stones and assaulted by the accused, sustaining injuries to his nose and arm.

An FIR has been registered at Vejalpur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to murder, attempt to murder, and unlawful assembly.

While Rehan Pathan has been taken into custody, efforts are under way to trace and arrest the remaining accused and any other persons involved in the crime.

Police said further investigation is in progress to ascertain the sequence of events and the role of each accused in the fatal assault.
