Ahmedabad youth stabbed, assaulted by group in Kubernagar; five booked

A 22-year-old college student was allegedly stabbed and assaulted by a group of five men in the Kubernagar area of Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon, leaving him seriously injured and admitted to an intensive care unit, police said.
As per a complaint filed by Pawan Nandlal, a resident of Sardarnagar, the incident took place around 12.15 pm on April 19 near a kirana store in the locality. Pawan, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at CU Shah College, stated that he was returning home with his wife, on an two-wheeler when he encountered his elder brother Jigarbhai involved in a heated altercation with acquaintances.
The situation escalated when two of the accused, identified as Shrikant alias 'Sirio' and his son Bhanku alias Bunny, allegedly began hurling abuses at Pawan and his wife before physically assaulting him. During the attack, Bhanku is accused of pulling out a large dagger from his pocket and stabbing Pawan multiple times with an alleged intent to kill.
“In the assault, Pawan sustained grievous injuries below his left ear, near the cheek, and on his neck and chest, resulting in heavy bleeding,” said police.
He is undergoing treatment in the ICU ward of Tulsi Hospital in Naroda Patiya.
As locals gathered at the scene, the initial assailants reportedly fled. However, three more individuals — Paresh Manoj Gumane, Krishnakant alias Kano Manoj Gumane, and Akash Indrekar — allegedly arrived shortly thereafter and joined in the assault. They are accused of attacking Pawan, his wife, and his brother Sumeet using a stick.
During the scuffle, Pawan also allegedly lost a gold chain weighing approximately one-and-a-half tola, valued around ₹90,000, which he claimed broke and fell amid the chaos.
Pawan’s wife rushed him to Tulshi Hospital in a private rickshaw, where he remains under treatment. He told police he was fully conscious at the time of giving his statement.
Based on the complaint, the Sardarnagar police have registered a case of attempt to murder, assault, and related offences against the five accused and began an investigation.
