A 23-year-old man was allegedly abducted in broad daylight and fatally assaulted by a group of men in Meghaninagar on Friday, in what police say was a revenge attack linked to a past feud.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s elder brother, Alay Sampatbhai Patni (26), the deceased, Nitin Patni, was kidnapped around 1 pm on Friday from outside Safal-03 in Kagdapith by six men who forced him into a rickshaw. The assailants, identified as Satish alias Satiya Vitthalbhai Patni, Vishal alias Bumo Kishanbhai Dantani, Mahesh alias Katto Rajubhai Patni, Raj alias Sesu, along with two others known only as Bavo and Sajan, allegedly took him to Chamanpura’s Patninagar locality.

There, the accused and their associates allegedly assaulted Nitin in public with pipes, sticks, knives and sharp weapons. Witnesses and relatives rushed him to Civil Hospital, where doctors noted severe injuries to his legs, head, eyes and torso. Despite efforts in the trauma ward, Nitin succumbed to his injuries around 10.40 pm.

The complainant told police that the murder stemmed from an earlier incident in Patninagar where the brother of prime accused Satish had been assaulted, and Nitin’s name had allegedly surfaced in that case. “With the intention of avenging that quarrel, the accused formed a group, kidnapped my brother and killed him,” said police

Police have registered offences of murder, abduction and rioting under relevant sections of the IPC. Police has started an investigation

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police teams are conducting raids to trace the accused who fled after the assault.
