A 26-year-old woman from Chandkheda has filed a police complaint against a man from Mehsana, accusing him of physical assault, repeated threats, stalking and harassment at her residence and workplace. The accused has been identified as Ankil Nitinbhai Patel, a resident of Ladol in Mehsana district’s Bijapur taluka.
The complainant, Hemali Shah, who lives with her parents and daughter in Chandkheda, has alleged that the accused physically assaulted her inside a moving car, threatened to kill her, and continues to harass her both in person and over text messages.
As per the police, she was previously married in 2017 and later separated in 2023. Since the separation, she has been raising her daughter and working at a private engineering firm.
She first met the accused, Ankil Patel, while he was visiting her office complex for work. The two became friends and eventually began discussing marriage. However, when Hemali realised that the accused was not serious about the relationship, she decided to end all contact.
The situation escalated on May 14, 2025, when Ankil allegedly called Hemali to her residential complex, and she agreed to meet him. She claims that as they were travelling in his car towards her workplace, he suddenly became aggressive. “He told me not to speak to any men in the office. When I ignored him, he abused me and slapped me two to three times inside the moving car,” she mentions in complaint. He then dropped her off near her office, threatening her with the words, “If I see you on the road again, I will kill you.”
Following the incident, the accused allegedly continued to send her threatening messages, warning her that he would “ruin her life and never let her marry anyone else”. Hemali also reported that Ankil began stalking her while sitting outside her residential complex, following her to work, and harassing her at both locations.
Fearing for her safety, Hemali informed her parents, who then contacted the accused’s father. However, the accused’s father reportedly told them that he could not control his son and suggested filing a police complaint if the harassment continued.
With no change in the accused’s behaviour, Hemali approached the police, seeking legal action. The Chandkheda police have registered an FIR under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to assault, criminal intimidation, and stalking. Her parents and uncle have been named as witnesses in the complaint. The police have initiated an investigation into the allegations. No arrests were reported till this report was filed.
