Ahmedabad woman falls to death from third-floor flat in Chandkheda

A 34-year-old woman died after falling from the third floor of a residential building in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the society premises. The circumstances leading to the fall remain unclear, and police have registered a case of accidental death while further investigation is under way.
The woman, identified as Maitri Shrimali, lived in Diwali Homes, the housing complex where the incident occurred. According to police sources, the fall took place two days ago, when Shrimali suddenly went towards the balcony area and plunged down. She sustained severe injuries on impact and died on the spot.
CCTV footage, now part of the police investigation, shows a cleaner sweeping the ground floor corridor when Shrimali is seen falling abruptly from above. Her dupatta, caught in the wind, dropped moments later. Residents and bystanders rushed to the spot immediately, but she could not be saved.
Chandkheda police said no suicide note was found from the flat, and the reasons behind the fall remain unknown. Officers are examining whether it was a deliberate act, an accident, or if any external factors were involved. Statements from her family members, neighbours and others who were in the building at the time are being recorded.
A senior police official said, “We have registered an accidental death entry. The CCTV footage is being analysed, and we are speaking to those close to the deceased to understand her state of mind and the events preceding the incident.”
The incident has left residents of the society in shock, with many describing an atmosphere of fear and grief following the tragedy. Authorities said further action would be taken once the investigation establishes the cause of the fall.
