A 26-year-old married woman in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev area allegedly died by suicide along with her 3-year-old child after reportedly facing persistent harassment from her husband and in-laws, police said on Sunday. The woman is believed to have jumped in front of an oncoming train while holding her child, resulting in the deaths of both.

According to Bodakdev police, an FIR has been registered for abetment to suicide against her husband Hasmukh Makwana, father-in-law Kanu Makwana and mother-in-law Sharadaben Makwana. The complaint states that continued mental and domestic harassment drove the woman to take the extreme step.

Police officials said the incident came to light after railway authorities informed local police about two bodies found on the tracks. Preliminary inquiries suggested that the woman had taken the child with her and deliberately stepped in front of the train.

Bodakdev police have begun a detailed investigation, including statements from neighbours and extended family members. Officers said the sequence of events leading up to the incident, including allegations of cruelty, will be examined as part of the probe.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further legal procedures are under way. Police said action will be taken based on the evidence that emerges during the investigation.
