A 37-year-old woman working as a peon in Bapunagar has filed an FIR alleging that her former partner circulated a morphed ‘obscene’ video carrying her photograph and mobile number on Instagram in an attempt to coerce her into resuming a relationship.

The complainant, Debanjana (name changed), told Bapunagar police that the accused, identified as Jitu alias Jayaraj Singh Solanki, a resident of Mehsana district, had been harassing her for the past six months after she ended their relationship earlier this year.

Harassment escalated with an edited video circulated on Instagram

According to the FIR, Debanjana ended the relationship six months ago after learning that Jayaraj was allegedly seeing another woman and was “addicted to drugs”. She stated that she blocked his number after repeated calls and pressure to continue the relationship.

On December 1, around 9.30 am, she received a call from an unknown number informing her that a “nude video” had been posted on Instagram, bearing her photograph and mobile number. The caller told her he had obtained her number from the video.

Shocked, she asked a friend to contact the number again and request the video. The FIR states that the video contained an obscene clip with her face and mobile number edited onto it.

She then called the accused, and Jayaraj allegedly told her, “Do whatever she wants to. If she doesn’t come back to him, he won’t let her live peacefully. He will upload more photos and videos on Instagram and WhatsApp and ruin your life.”

The victim told police that the accused had threatened to “defame her further” if she refused to continue the relationship. She alleged that the edited video had been posted with the intent to shame and intimidate her into submission.

The FIR notes that Debanjana and Jayaraj had met two years ago when she was working at a hospital in Ahmedabad. The two had entered into a relationship after regularly speaking on the phone and meeting occasionally, during which they had shared photographs and videos with each other.

The complaint states that the accused had been repeatedly calling her from multiple numbers since the breakup and had continued to pressure her to maintain a relationship.

Based on the complaint, Bapunagar police registered a case against Jayaraj Singh under sections relating to criminal intimidation, online harassment, defamation, and circulation of obscene content.

Police Inspector of Bapunagar Police Station confirmed that the case has been taken up for investigation. Further investigation is under way to trace the source accounts, verify the edited material, and locate the accused.
