Ahmedabad woman alleges assault by husband’s relatives after confronting him over extramarital affair

A 30-year-old woman from Vatva, Ahmedabad, has lodged a detailed police complaint alleging that she and her family members were assaulted, abused and molested by her husband’s relatives after she confronted a woman with whom her husband was allegedly having an affair.
As per the FIR filed at Vatva police station on November 26, the complainant, Poojaben, resident of Vatva, stated that she has been married for 11 years to Kaushansinh Tomar, a contractor. She alleged that despite repeated objections, her husband continued an extramarital relationship with a woman named Jyoti.
The complaint states that on the evening of November 21, around 8 pm, Poojaben, along with her sister Sonal, her mother Mithileshben, and another sister, Sushmita, went to Jyoti’s residence to ask her to end the alleged relationship. An argument ensued when Jyoti’s parents identified as Miraben and Atmaram Rajput along with other family members allegedly began hurling abuses and threatening the complainant.
When Poojaben’s family members intervened, they were allegedly beaten with a wooden stick. Soon after, Jyoti’s brother, Alok Rajput, and several other relatives arrived and allegedly assaulted the complainant’s family again. The complaint further alleges that Alok pushed Sonal to the ground, tore her clothes and attempted to molest her.
During the scuffle, the complainant’s sister Sonal’s silver chain and Sushmita’s gold chain were reportedly snatched. As the situation escalated, the complainant called police control, following which a patrol team reached the spot and brought the women to the police station.
The FIR states that the accused also shouted obscene remarks, including derogatory comments about the complainant’s husband, and continued issuing threats. The complainant told police that the incident was witnessed by neighbours and was also captured on CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections relating to assault, abuse, molestation and criminal intimidation.
Police said further investigation is under way and statements of witnesses, including family members and locals, will be recorded. CCTV footage from the spot is also being examined.
