Ahmedabad woman accuses husband of abuse, illicit affair and assault

A 38-year-old woman has filed a complaint with Chandkheda police in Ahmedabad, alleging sustained mental and physical abuse at the hands of her husband and in-laws over more than a decade. The FIR, registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, also accuses the husband of assaulting her in front of her family members and maintaining an extramarital relationship with a colleague.
As per the FIR, Pooja Pandey, a resident of Motera, Ahmedabad, and originally from Banaras, Uttar Pradesh, was married to Vikash Kumar Pandey in 2011. She has alleged that from the early days of their marriage, her husband subjected her to repeated verbal and emotional abuse, often comparing her unfavourably to other women, criticising her appearance, and questioning her character.
In her complaint, Pooja stated that soon after marriage, her husband left for Australia for work, and upon his return, they settled in Ahmedabad. The situation allegedly worsened after the birth of their son in 2013, with her husband reportedly becoming increasingly aggressive and demanding ₹10 lakh from her father to buy a flat. She claims the money was paid, but the abuse continued unabated.
She further alleged that in December 2024, Vikash began an affair with a colleague whom he had hired at his company. According to Pooja, Vikash not only admitted to the relationship but would often taunt her about it and even manipulate their son against her. “He would take our son to the women’s house and force me to speak to her over the phone,” she said, adding that this harassment severely affected her mental health.
Despite multiple attempts by family members—including her parents and maternal uncle—to reconcile the couple, the abuse reportedly escalated. On July 4, 2025, Pooja alleged that Vikash entered her brother’s home around 11.30 pm, where she had been staying, and physically assaulted her in the presence of her brothers Aman Dubey and Akash Pandey. She claims he dragged her into a room, beat her with his hands and a stick, and threatened to kill her.
From 2011 till today, she has faced constant mental, physical and emotional trauma at the hands of her husband and his family, which she stated in the complaint. She also accused her in-laws of humiliating her, making vulgar remarks, and demanding additional dowry.
The FIR mentions that the assault took place in front of eyewitnesses and that the husband had threatened her life. A case has been registered at Chandkheda police station, and the investigation is on.
