The ward-wise electoral roll for the upcoming general elections to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation has been released, showing a sharp decline of around eight lakh voters compared to the 2021 polls.

According to the latest data issued on March 23, the total number of voters in the city stands at 38,00,507, including 19,67,179 male voters, 18,33,136 female voters and 192 from other categories.

In contrast, during the 2021 civic elections, the city had a total of 46,24,638 voters across 48 wards, comprising 24,14,256 male voters, 22,10,214 female voters and 168 others.

Officials said the decline includes a reduction of around five lakh male voters and three lakh female voters.

The decrease has been attributed to multiple factors, including migration of residents abroad, a rise in deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the removal of duplicate names from electoral rolls.

At the time of the 2021 elections, the city covered an area of 480.88 sq km with an estimated population of 56.64 lakh.

Sources said there has also been a shift of voters from areas such as Dariapur, Jamalpur and Shahpur, as well as parts of the old city, to other wards.
