Ahmedabad under yellow alert, temperatures may touch 45°C

Ahmedabad is expected to experience a sharp rise in temperature over the next few days, with the weather department issuing a ‘yellow alert’ for the next five days starting from Tuesday. The alert warns of potential intense heat conditions and advises residents to exercise caution.
On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4°C, which was 2.3 degrees below the normal average. However, the minimum temperature stood at 28.2°C, around two degrees above the seasonal average, indicating warmer nights.
According to weather experts, temperatures are set to increase steadily through the week. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 42°C on Tuesday, 43°C on Wednesday, and around 44°C on Thursday and Friday. By Saturday, the temperature may rise further to 45°C, marking one of the highest temperatures of the season so far.
Across Gujarat, several cities have already recorded high temperatures. Rajkot reported the highest at 42.2°C, followed by Bhuj at 41°C. Bhavnagar and Amreli recorded 40.7°C and 40.5°C, respectively. Meanwhile, Gandhinagar and Deesa registered 39°C and 38.8°C.
Other cities such as Vadodara, Kandla, Naliya, Porbandar, and Surat recorded relatively lower temperatures, though conditions remained warm.
Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions, including avoiding afternoon activities during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and protecting themselves from direct sunlight to minimise health risks during the heatwave.
