Ahmedabad Traffic Police issued memos to 1,030 motorists for driving on the wrong side during a special enforcement drive conducted across the city on June 4 and 5, officials said.

The drive was launched to improve traffic discipline and curb violations that contribute to road safety risks in the city.

According to police, action was taken against motorists found driving on the wrong side, driving dangerously and violating other traffic rules.

During the two-day operation, memos were issued to 1,030 motorists for wrong-side driving, while action was also taken against four motorists for dangerous driving and other traffic violations.

Police collected a total fine of ₹20.16 lakh during the drive and detained three vehicles, officials said.

In addition, cases were registered against 156 motorists under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA), and they were detained as part of the enforcement action.
