In a major push toward modernisation, Ahmedabad is set to become one of India’s leading smart cities in traffic management. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a decision to launch a pilot project utilising Google Maps’ advanced traffic intelligence platform, 'Road Management Insights (RMI)'.

With this initiative, Ahmedabad joins pioneering Indian cities leveraging live traffic data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for real-time traffic management and future urban road planning.

Real-time insights and safety enhancements

Under the pilot project, authorities will gain access to real-time, highly accurate data from selective busy routes across the city. The RMI platform will track critical parameters, including hourly vehicle counts and average speeds. Precise travel times along major corridors and specific locations experiencing sudden breaking or unexpected bottlenecks.

Live alerts on road disruptions, such as accidents, waterlogging, potholes, or structural obstacles.

Cost-effective tech infrastructure

A standout feature of this project is its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The entire system operates entirely on software-driven data analytics, eliminating the need to install expensive new hardware, physical sensors, or additional CCTV cameras across the city.

The insights generated by Google Maps will be integrated into the 'TraffiCure' platform. This will present Ahmedabad’s traffic authorities with an intuitive, user-friendly dashboard, live alert systems, and advanced planning tools to optimise daily city transit seamlessly. ‎
