Ahmedabad student blackmailed through fake Instagram accounts
A 24-year-old college student from Ahmedabad filed a complaint after an unknown person created fake Instagram accounts in her name and used them to post obscene photos and reels. The accused also threatened to make the photos viral if she did not obey their demands.
According to the complaint, the student lives in the Vastrapur area and studies at a college in Navrangpura. She was informed about the fake Instagram account by one of her friends on March 28. The account had an obscene photo of the student as its profile picture.
Another fake account was also used to upload obscene reels and send follow requests to people. However, both accounts were deactivated shortly afterward.. On May 11, the accused created two more fake Instagram accounts and again sent follow requests to the student.
The accused allegedly told the student that if she did not listen to them, they would share the obscene photos with her college friends and other people. They also threatened to damage her reputation on social media.
Scared by the repeated threats and mental harassment, the student contacted the cyber crime helpline and later filed an official complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station and Navrangpura police.
After receiving the complaint, cyber crime officials collected details related to the fake Instagram accounts and began tracing the digital footprints left by the accused. Investigators are examining account activity, login records, and other technical evidence to identify the person responsible for creating the fake profiles.
