Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) spent over ₹70 crore in the past two years on drainage line and catchpit cleaning, yet residents in several wards — including Khadia, Gomtipur, Jamalpur, Shahpur, and Kubernagar — are struggling for clean drinking water.

Gomtipur ward is facing the worst situation, with many chawls receiving polluted water for nearly 20 minutes every morning.

Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, officials and authorities have shown little interest in finding a permanent solution.

While AMC continues to promote ‘Smart City’ projects and highlights stormwater lines, pumping stations, and new drainage installations, basic civic issues like clean water, good roads, and proper sewage management remain unresolved.

Frustrated residents of India Colony near Naroda recently staged a road blockade, forcing AMC officials to rush to the spot.

With municipal elections just five months away, questions are mounting over the corporation’s failure to ensure safe drinking water, as residents continue to battle water contamination and related health issues.
