Ahmedabad SOG, food department seals pan parlours for violating safety norms

The Ahmedabad city Special Operations Group (SOG), in coordination with the Food department, on Tuesday carried out surprise inspections at pan parlours across the city to check the sale of prohibited and potentially intoxicating substances, including ‘gogo paper’(tobacco rolling paper), officials said.
During the joint operation, teams examined pan stalls for compliance with food safety regulations and the presence of banned materials. Several establishments were found to be violating prescribed food department norms, following which legal action was initiated against the operators.

Officials said pan parlours flouting food safety standards were sealed on the spot under relevant provisions of the law. Among the establishments sealed was Raja Pan Parlour, located at Ganesh Glory in the Jagatpur area of Ahmedabad.
In a separate action during the same drive, Vishal Pan Parlour at Swarnim Complex in Chharodi was inspected. The shop is owned by Vishal Shyamsundar Sharma, police said, adding that necessary proceedings have been initiated for violations detected during the inspection.

“The drive was aimed at checking the illegal sale of intoxicating substances and ensuring adherence to food safety regulations,” said an SOG officer, adding that similar inspections will continue in other parts of the city.
Authorities have warned parlour operators to strictly follow food safety laws; failing which, stringent action will be taken.
