Ahmedabad SOG arrests two with 5.4g mephedrone in late-evening raid near Gota Bridge

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Friday night arrested two alleged peddlers from near Gota Bridge after they were found in possession of mephedrone (MD) without permit. The police seized 5.4 grams of the synthetic drug, valued at ₹16,200, along with a scooter and three mobile phones, taking the total seizure value to ₹1.26 lakh.

The SOG team received a tip-off around 3 pm on Friday from a confidential informant that two individuals Javed alias JD Sheikh of Dariyapur and Muzaffar Mohsin Juneja of Paldi, were allegedly carrying small quantities of mephedrone for sale. They were expected to arrive in the evening on a black Access scooter outside SG Business Hub, near Gota Bridge.

Decoy team deployed, accused intercepted

The raiding team proceeded to the spot in the late afternoon and discreetly took position.

Around 6.30 pm, the officers located the scooter and two suspects matching the description. After surrounding them, the officers identified themselves and conducted searches.

From Javed alias JD Sheikh, a transparent ziplock pouch containing crystalline powder later confirmed as mephedrone.

From Muzaffar Mohsin Juneja, a similar pouch containing MD. Two Android mobile phones, one from each accused.

The SOG then shifted the operation to its Juhapura office to record seizures and conduct formal weighing. An officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Ahmedabad, reached the office at around 8.10 pm and conducted a preliminary chemical analysis, confirming the substance was mephedrone.

A government-approved weighing expert was brought in. The recovered narcotics were weighed separately:

* 2.62 g of mephedrone from Javed

* 2.78 g from Juneja

  Total: 5.40 g

The police also seized, two mobile phone, Black Suzuki Access scooter. The total seizure value was assessed at ₹1.26 lakh

During questioning, both accused allegedly stated that they were sourcing MD in small quantities from Anwar Sheikh, a resident of Lakhotapol in Dariyapur. They claimed that the deliveries were arranged via Anwar’s son, Ayan Sheikh.

Police said the role of the alleged supplier is now under investigation.

The SOG registered offences under Sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation is on to trace down the supplier and others involved in the chain
