Ahmedabad SMC seizes 1,620 litres of country liquor worth ₹3 lakh from Vatva canal, 1 held, 7 on run

In a major crackdown on illicit liquor trade, the Surveillance and Monitoring Cell (SMC) of the Ahmedabad City Police conducted a prohibition raid near the Vatva canal bridge in Narol and seized 1,620 litres of country liquor worth ₹3.24 lakh.

According to officials, the operation was carried out on Friday (November 8) under the supervision of the SMC, following a tip-off about large-scale illegal liquor movement in the area.

During the raid, police seized liquor-filled containers and a vehicle used for transportation, collectively valued at over ₹6.79 lakh, including the following:

- Country liquor: 1,620 litres, worth ₹3,24 Lakh

* Vehicle: one, worth ₹3,50 lakh

* Cash: ₹500

* Mobile phone: one, worth ₹5,000

Police arrested one accused, identified as Mohammad Bilal Abdul Rehman Bhisti, a resident of Danilimda. He was handed over to Narol Police Station for further investigation.

However, seven others involved in the network are absconding. including both suppliers and receivers of the illicit liquor. They have been identified as:

1. Iqbal Bala, resident of Shahpur, (main receiver)

2. Takuben Balvantsinh Darbar(receiver)

3. Shushilaben Chaudhary (receiver)

4. Poojaben Chunara (receiver)

5. Sunitaben Chunara (receiver)

6. Jayantibhai Chunara (receiver)

7. Bhuro, resident of Anand district (main supplier)

The case has been registered under Sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act, along with Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
