Ahmedabad Rural SOG nab 2 with ‘hybrid ganja’ worth ₹8.5 lakh

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural police has arrested two persons and seized 245 grams of an intoxicating substance described as 'hybrid ganja', valued at ₹8.57 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
Acting on a specific tip-off, an SOG team laid a trap in the Bopal area of Ahmedabad on Monday afternoon. Police intercepted a scooter near Shilaj Circle and detained two suspects travelling on it.
The accused have been identified as Yash Kanaiyalal Chauhan (27), a resident of Bhimjipura, and Neeraj Pravinbhai Patel (42), who has addresses in Bhayli and Satadhar areas of the city. Upon search, officers recovered 245 grams of black-coloured 'hybrid ganja' from their possession.
The substance was examined in the presence of a forensic expert and found to be a prohibited narcotic under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
In addition to the contraband, police seized a scooter, two mobile phones, ₹90,990 in cash and other items, taking the total value of the seizure to over ₹8 lakh.
A case has been registered at Bopal Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including those related to possession, sale and criminal conspiracy. Further investigation is under way to ascertain the source of the narcotics and possible links to a wider distribution network.
