Ahmedabad Rural LCB cracks murder of woman, husband arrested
The Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch (LCB) on Wednesday solved the murder of an unidentified woman whose body was found in a field on the outskirts of Kanbha village, arresting her husband within a few hours of the case being registered, police said.

The body of a woman, estimated to be around 40 years old, was discovered on December 22 in a field falling under the jurisdiction of Kanbha police station. Initially registered as an accidental death case, the matter was subsequently converted into a murder case after preliminary inquiry and medical examination revealed signs of foul play. An offence was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Given the gravity of the crime, Police Inspector R N Karamatiya of the LCB formed multiple teams to identify the deceased and trace the perpetrator.

Police teams scanned CCTV footage from the surrounding areas, analysed vehicle movements and used technical surveillance along with human intelligence. During the investigation the deceased woman was identified as Kamalaben, wife of Rajkumar Shriram Diwakar.

Suspicion soon fell on her husband, Rajkumar Diwakar, after technical evidence and field inquiries pointed towards his involvement. During sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime, police said.

According to investigators, the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital relationship. Police said Kamalaben had left home on December 11 on the pretext of visiting her parental home and returned on December 15. Despite repeated objections from the accused, she allegedly continued the relationship, leading to frequent disputes.

On December 16, the accused allegedly devised a plan to kill her. He reportedly pretended to be unwell and took her on his motorcycle to a secluded stretch on the Odhav–Kathlal road. There, he allegedly assaulted her, pushed her to the ground and strangled her, resulting in her death. The body was later dumped in a field near Kanbha village.

The accused, Rajkumar Shriram Diwakar, a native of Chakarnagar in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Odhav’s Adinathnagar area in Ahmedabad, was detained and formally arrested. He has been handed over to Kanbha police station for further legal proceedings.
