Ahmedabad residents are expressing strong anger after a divider cut on the Vaishnodevi-Zundal Road, along the SP Ring Road in Ahmedabad, was blocked.

Following a representation by BJP MP Narhari Amin, the authorities and police had closed the cut. In protest, residents of the New Tragad and Chandkheda areas took to the streets on Sunday and launched a signature campaign to reopen it. Locals allege that the closure has taken away public convenience to accommodate political interests.

The closure of the divider cut is causing significant difficulties for commuters, forcing them to take a long detour of 3-4 kilometers. The cut was particularly convenient for residents of New Tragad traveling from Vaishnodevi to Zundal.

Women protesters raised the question of why Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has not taken notice of the issue. Locals say that instead of blocking the cut under the pretext of traffic management, a traffic signal should have been installed.

Residents have also submitted written representations to the Union Home Minister and local corporators. Although authorities have assured an investigation, no concrete action has been taken yet. Frustrated by severe traffic problems, citizens have now resorted to protest, demanding the immediate reopening of the divider cut.
