Ahmedabad railway division earns ₹885 crore in December as over 3.5 million passengers travel
The Ahmedabad division of the railways recorded a strong performance in December, with more than 3.5 million passengers travelling by train and record cargo movement, resulting in total earnings of ₹885 crore in a single month.
According to railway officials, 35.77 lakh passengers travelled from various stations under the Ahmedabad division during December, generating ₹167 crore in ticket revenue. An additional ₹2 crore was recovered from passengers travelling without tickets.
On the freight front, the division achieved its highest-ever monthly cargo loading, transporting 5.03 million tonnes of goods across the country in just one month. Commodities such as salt, coal, fertilisers, chemicals and automobiles were moved through goods trains.
Officials said that, on average, 3,224 wagons were loaded daily during December. The Gandhidham sector accounted for the highest share, dispatching up to 2,462 wagons per day, while the Ahmedabad sector handled around 761 wagons daily.
Freight operations alone earned the division ₹536 crore during the month. In one notable instance, a record 373 wagons of salt were dispatched in a single day. Stations such as Gandhidham, Mothala, Shirva, Sanosara and Samakhiali recorded the highest cargo loading.
Railway officials said the combined growth in passenger traffic and freight movement underscores the operational efficiency and rising demand across the Western Railway Ahmedabad Division, making December one of its most successful months in recent years.
