Ahmedabad prepares for Commonwealth Games 2030, six sports centres to be constructed

Ahmedabad is now officially the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone for India. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had already begun groundwork for the past several months, anticipating the city’s selection.
A ₹52-crore sports complex is currently under construction in Vastral, while five new sports complexes are planned across different parts of the city. The civic body is also preparing to develop an Athletes’ Village to accommodate nearly 3,000 sportspersons.
Ahmedabad’s existing infrastructure will also play a part in the event — from the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket stadium globally, to the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave. In addition, the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex and Aquatic Centre in Naranpura, built at a cost of over ₹825 crore, already match international Commonwealth standards.
To support the massive sporting event, AMC is set to implement major changes in the city’s transportation network. Roads connecting to event venues and stadiums will be widened and strengthened to handle increased movement. Expansion work at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is already in progress.
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, expected to be partially ready by December 2027 and fully operational by December 2029, is likely to boost high-speed travel for international delegates and athletes.
Construction at Sabarmati Riverfront Phase-II is also in full swing. Once both-side roadworks are completed by January 26, AMC and the Riverfront Development Authority plan to build a modern water sports facility, adding yet another international-standard venue to the Games ecosystem.
