Ahmedabad Police seize 560 kg suspected cow meat from Juhapura house, accused flee

The Vejalpur police have registered a case after recovering about 560 kilograms of suspected cow meat and rescuing two calves during a raid at a house in the Juhapura area of Ahmedabad, officials said.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the raid was carried out on March 4, around 1.15 pm at a residence located near Usmani Masjid in Golden Park, Vejalpur–Juhapura following a tip-off about alleged illegal cattle slaughter.
The complaint was filed by Pareshbhai Bhagwanbhai, a police constable posted at the Vejalpur Police Station.
Police said that during routine patrol in the area earlier that day, officers received information from a source that Mohammad Aftab Mohammad Akram Qureshi, who had previously been arrested in connection with cattle slaughter cases, along with his associates, had gathered at a house in Golden Park and were allegedly carrying out illegal slaughtering of cattle.
Acting on the information, a police team proceeded to the location. Upon reaching the house, officers found the door closed. When the team entered the premises, they discovered that the suspects had already fled.
Inside the house, police found large quantities of meat with bones scattered across the premises, along with tools suspected to have been used for slaughtering animals. Two calves, each around one-and-a-half years old were also found tied with ropes inside the house.
Officials said the animals appeared to have been kept with the intention of slaughter, without adequate food or water.
During the search, police recovered a sharp knife, a wooden-handled cutting tool, and a metal rod bent on both sides, believed to have been used in the alleged slaughter.
The police called a sanitary inspector from Amdavad Municipal Corporation, who estimated the total quantity of meat at around 560 kilograms. Samples were collected from different portions and sealed for forensic examination.
The samples were later sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Meghaninagar, which confirmed that the seized meat was of bovine origin, according to officials.
The total value of the seized items including the meat and the two calves has been estimated at around ₹1.93 lakh, police said.
The two rescued calves have been placed in the care of an animal welfare trust, Gitaben Rambhiya Smruti Ahinsa Trust, for protection and shelter.
Based on the complaint, the Vejalpur police have registered a case against Mohammad Aftab Mohammad Akram Qureshi and his unidentified associates under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,and the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations Act.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace the accused persons who fled the scene during the raid. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
