Ahmedabad police launches anti-begging drive for children, rescue efforts underway

Ahmedabad police have launched a five-day anti-begging campaign during the Diwali festival. The initiative aims to rescue children forced into begging and take strict action against those who lure, threaten, or compel them into the practice.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has directed all police stations and She Teams to conduct a special campaign over the next five days to protect children who are being forced into begging. All police stations have been ordered to strictly implement this campaign and ensure that children engaged in begging are rescued immediately.
Meetings have been held with She Teams to plan operations, and special instructions and dedicated vehicles have been allocated for the campaign. Additional police personnel have also been assigned to support the teams.
Rescued children will be handed over to Child Development Officers and shelter homes in coordination with welfare authorities. They will also undergo medical examinations as part of the rehabilitation process.
Furthermore, police have been instructed to register cases under the Juvenile Justice Act for offences involving children and to take action against adult beggars creating public nuisance. Joint teams of the police and the Child Welfare Department will work together during Diwali to ensure strict action against those exploiting children for begging.
