Ahmedabad Police launch drive against vehicles without number plates, tinted windows

The Ahmedabad City Police have launched a two-week special drive against vehicles plying without number plates and those with tinted windows in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. The campaign will run from September 3 to 17, following directives from the Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat.
According to a circular issued by the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Ahmedabad, the drive will cover all traffic divisions across the city. Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) have been instructed to remain in the field and supervise the enforcement.
As per the instructions, traffic station in-charges, interceptor units, and highway patrol cars will prepare daily reports on the number of offences booked, fines collected, and vehicles detained. These details will be consolidated by the Traffic Administration Department and sent to the DGP’s office.
Officials said the crackdown comes in the wake of rising complaints about vehicles with blackened glasses beyond permissible limits, and new or old vehicles being driven without registration number plates. “Such vehicles not only violate traffic laws but are also misused for criminal activities. Strict enforcement is necessary to ensure compliance and public safety,” a senior police officer said.
Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the drive and ensure that their vehicles comply with RTO norms on registration plates and window tinting.
