In a citywide drive against traffic violations, Ahmedabad Police on Tuesday fined over 300 vehicle owners for either driving without number plates or using black tinted glass (dark film) on their cars, in violation of traffic rules.

According to data compiled up to 5 pm on September 3, a total of 311 cases were registered for the use of black film, amounting to penalties worth ₹1.18 lakh. Additionally, 129 cases were recorded against vehicles without number plates, with fines totalling ₹72,000.

The highest number of black film violations was detected in the ‘K’ post jurisdiction, where 44 cases were registered, resulting in fines of ₹26,400. In the ‘N’ post, 45 vehicles were booked with penalties worth ₹13,800, while the ‘M’ post reported 33 such cases.

For missing number plates, the ‘A’ post saw the maximum with 27 cases (₹13,500 collected), followed by the ‘SG-2’ post with 20 cases and the ‘L’ post with 13 cases.

Police also said relating to number plates and tinted windows, 30 vehicles were detained during the checks.

A senior police officer said, “The drive was conducted across multiple posts in the city. Vehicles with dark film and without number plates pose a security risk, apart from being a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. The action will continue in the coming days.”

Traffic authorities have also appealed to motorists to avoid tampering with number plates or installing unauthorised films on their vehicles, warning that stricter checks will be maintained, especially in high-traffic zones and sensitive areas.
