Ahmedabad Police crack two copper wire theft cases, three arrested

The Sola High Court Police have solved two cases of copper wire theft with the arrest of three men and the recovery of stolen property worth ₹1.80 lakh.

Police Inspector K N Bhukan of the Sola High Court Police Station led the operation, with support from officers and staff, using specific intelligence inputs, CCTV footage and technical surveillance.

Police said the accused were intercepted on a public road near the Gota Meldi Estate–Swad Gathiya Rath area, following which they were found in possession of stolen copper wiring. With their arrest, the police also detected two theft cases registered at the Sola High Court Police Station.

The arrested accused have been identified as Naranji Ishwarji Thakor (40), a driver by profession and a resident of Narol, originally from Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district; Sanjay Shankarbhai Thakor (31), a businessman living in Chandlodia; and Bhavesh Khushalbhai Makwana (27), a resident of Chandlodia.

During the operation, police seized 30 kg of copper wire valued at ₹30,000 and an auto-rickshaw worth ₹1.5 lakh, taking the total value of recovered property to ₹1.80 lakh.

According to police, the accused had allegedly stolen copper electric wiring worth ₹2.41 lakh from Block No. 2 of a newly constructed Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing project in Gota between September 26 and 28. The same accused allegedly struck again at the same location between January 11 and 13, stealing copper wiring worth ₹16,018.

Cases have been registered at the Sola High Court Police Station under section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said one of the accused, Sanjay Thakor, has a prior criminal record, with multiple theft cases registered against him at the same police station under sections of BNS.
