Ahmedabad Police conduct mega drive to curb illegal sale, misuse of narcotic drugs

In a sweeping crackdown aimed at curbing the misuse and unlawful sale of narcotic medicines, the Ahmedabad Police, on the directions of Commissioner of Police G S Malik, on Tuesday carried out a large-scale inspection drive across neighbourhoods.
Teams from the local police stations conducted coordinated checks at medical stores in Maninagar, Khokhra, Isanpur, Vatva, Narol, Danilimda and the Vatva GIDC industrial area. The operation, officials said, was launched to identify shops allegedly selling controlled or narcotic drugs without valid prescriptions.
The mega checking drive focused on detecting violations such as the sale of prescription-only medicines without a doctor’s authorisation, stocking of prohibited or restricted drugs, excessive quantities of medicines in breach of norms, and possession of drugs that medical stores are legally barred from keeping.
Police officials said the inspections would continue as part of an ongoing effort to curb the circulation of narcotic substances in the state and ensure strict compliance with drug safety laws. Further action will be taken against shops found violating the rules, they added.
