Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik on Monday visited the Pirana crossroads to assess traffic management measures in the wake of ongoing infrastructure works and recent diversions in the area.

The visit comes after the closure of the Pirana cut, a key junction point, as part of efforts to streamline vehicular movement along the busy Narol–Vishala stretch, where bridge construction is currently under way. Officials said the closure has led to a noticeable improvement in traffic flow, which was previously affected by congestion at the intersection.

During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the functioning of traffic personnel and assessed congestion points along the stretch, which witnesses heavy movement of commercial vehicles throughout the day. The continuous flow of goods carriers has been placing significant pressure on the road network, necessitating stricter traffic regulation and diversion planning.

“The overall law and order situation in the city remains under control. Our priority is to ease the increasing traffic burden across Ahmedabad,” Malik said, adding that multiple flyover and overbridge projects are currently in progress at key junctions.

Due to these works, several cuts at crossroads have been temporarily closed and diversions implemented to facilitate smoother traffic movement. The commissioner also reviewed congestion near the Pirana–Narol corridor, particularly around the Cosy Hotel junction, which has been a recurring bottleneck.

Police said additional personnel, including Traffic Regulation Brigade (TRB) jawan, have been deployed at critical points to manage vehicular flow. The strength of the traffic police has also been increased to cope with rising demand.

Officials further said that signal timings across major intersections are being recalibrated to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times for commuters.

Malik is also scheduled to visit the Palladium Mall on Tuesday to review traffic arrangements in that area as part of the department’s ongoing city-wide assessment.

Authorities said continuous monitoring and adaptive traffic strategies will remain key as infrastructure projects progress and vehicular load continues to rise in the city.
