Ahmedabad police arrest absconding ‘honey trap’ accused after one year

The Zone-7 Local Crime Branch (LCB) of the Ahmedabad city police has arrested a key accused who had been on the run for nearly a year in a ‘honey trap’ case registered at the Anandnagar police station, officials said on Sunday.
Based on a specific tip-off received by head constable Ravirajsinh Mahipatsinh, the team traced and apprehended the accused, identified as Ankit Bharatkumar Tyagi (23). Tyagi is a native of Vadodara and was currently residing in Surendranagar.
According to police, Tyagi was a prime accused in a honey trap case registered as Anandnagar police station. He had been absconding for the past year to evade arrest. He has now been taken into custody and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
The case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Sections.
Police records show that the accused has an extensive criminal history, with cases registered against him in Surendranagar and Surat. These include offences related to criminal intimidation, extortion, conspiracy and assault under various sections of the BNS, as well as preventive action under PASA provisions.
Officials said the arrest was part of a sustained drive by Zone-7 LCB to trace absconding accused involved in property-related and violent crimes, with the aim of strengthening law and order in the city. The successful operation was carried out by Police Inspector Y P Jadeja of LCB Zone-7 and his team
