Hiren Gajera, 41, was first kidnapped from El Empalme city in Ecuador by Colombian terrorists, and was killed afterwards. According to reports, the kidnappers had asked for a ransom of US$1,00,000 or 70 kg of drugs. Later, Gajera was killed, and his body was dumped into a river by the terrorists. The family had reportedly agreed to the conditions of the kidnappers, yet Gajera was killed.
Son of a doctor in the Memnagar area of Ahmedabad, Gajera had gone to the South American country in 2006 and was a wood businessman there. However, he returned to Ahmedabad in 2014 and went back in March 2023. Reports also suggest that Gajera had bought a new house in Cuenca city of Ecuador.
