Ahmedabad NRI Tower shooting: Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil’s nephew shoots wife, dies by suicide

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Ahmedabad, a woman was shot dead and her husband later died by suicide following a firing incident at an NRI apartment complex in the Bodakdev–Thaltej area late on Wednesday night, police said.
The incident took place around 10.30 pm. Senior police officials confirmed that the deceased, identified as Yashraj Gohil, nephew of former Gujarat Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, allegedly shot his wife, Rajeshwari, with a revolver at their residence in the NRI Tower. The couple had got married only a few months ago.
According to the police, Yashraj's mother rushed to their bedroom hearing the shot, when allegedly told her it was an accident and they informed the emergency service 108. After the call he allegedly, went into another room and turned the firearm on himself and died by suicide.
Residents of the high-rise said they heard gunshots late at night, following which panic gripped the building. Vastrapur police were alerted and rushed to the spot, along with senior officers including the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The flat was cordoned off as forensic teams carried out an examination.
Preliminary findings suggest that the incident took place inside the couple’s apartment, though the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained. Police officials said no prior complaint had been received from the couple.
“The matter is being investigated from all angles. Statements of family members, neighbours and other relevant persons are being recorded, and forensic evidence is being analysed,” a senior police officer said.
Both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further details would emerge once the investigation progresses.
