What are you doing? Ahmedabad municipal commissioner questions water department over frequent waterlogging

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, while addressing waterlogging issues in the city following the monsoon, questioned the Water Resources department about their handling of the situation. “What work are you doing?” he asked during a meeting, expressing dissatisfaction over the department’s handling of rainwater drainage.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on the ongoing waterlogging and drainage problems across areas of Ahmedabad. The commissioner notably denied entry to three assistant municipal commissioners who arrived late.
During the discussion, it was pointed out that even hours after rainfall, the Water Resources department had failed to resolve waterlogging issues, causing widespread inconvenience to residents.
The commissioner questioned why, despite having a list of waterlogging-prone spots in Ahmedabad, the department was still unprepared and unable to act promptly after the rains.
He also raised serious concerns about city lakes being contaminated due to the inflow of sewage water. “What action have you taken to prevent this?” he asked.
Concluding his remarks, the municipal commissioner instructed the department to prioritise citizen welfare and actively work towards minimising public inconvenience caused by poor water management.
