A woman allegedly submitted a forged school leaving certificate to police in an attempt to portray her son as a minor and secure juvenile protection in an attempted murder case.

The accused, a resident of Ramol’s Ramrajyanagar area, had been absconding for nearly a year after allegedly stabbing a friend on October 24, 2025. The attack was so severe that the victim’s intestines reportedly protruded from the wound. Acting on a tip-off, Ramol police recently apprehended the accused from his residence.

During questioning, the accused told police that he was 19 years old, following which he was arrested in the attempted murder case. However, the next day, his mother arrived at the police station and submitted a school leaving certificate claiming that her son was a minor.

Police grew suspicious after noticing discrepancies in the duplicate certificate. Investigators found signs that the date of birth had been altered, making the accused appear one year younger than his actual age.

Further verification with the school revealed that the original leaving certificate had reportedly been declared lost and a duplicate had been issued. Authorities discovered that the birth date recorded in the duplicate document had been tampered with.

The school confirmed that the certificate had been manipulated. Investigators concluded that the accused's mother had altered the document in an attempt to secure juvenile status and the associated legal benefits for her son in the attempted murder case.

Ramol police have now registered a separate case against both the accused and his mother for submitting a forged school leaving certificate and misleading investigators. Further investigation is underway.
