Ahmedabad minor lured via Snapchat, abducted, one accused held, another absconding

Isanpur police have arrested a youth from Palanpur for allegedly abducting and raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl whom she befriended on Snapchat. A second accused is on the run.

According to investigators, the Class X student, who lives in Isanpur with her parents, struck up a friendship with Hasan Qureshi of Palanpur around two months ago through the photo-sharing app. The pair soon began speaking daily and later met in person, after which a romantic relationship developed between them.

Last Sunday afternoon, the girl left home, telling her parents she was visiting a friend to collect a notebook. Instead, she met Qureshi, who took her by car to a hotel in Paldi. Police said Qureshi promised marriage and then allegedly raped her before fleeing, claiming he would return shortly.

When the teenager failed to return home late that night, her worried parents approached Isanpur police, who immediately began tracing her. She returned home the next morning and revealed the incident. 

On her father's complaint, police registered an FIR under sections of the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Qureshi has been arrested, while a second suspect, who allegedly assisted in the abduction, remains at large.

Isanpur police inspector said, "The survivor is receiving medical care and counselling. Efforts are underway to locate the second accused."
