Ahmedabad crime branch disguised as vendors in Surat |
In a three-year-old case of abduction, the Ahmedabad crime branch nabbed a man who disappeared with his two children after a family dispute with his wife.
A couple living in Naroda’s Krishnanagar in Ahmedabad had a family dispute in 2021. The husband disappeared, taking their eight-year-old daughter and three-year-old son.
The Gujarat High Court issued Habeas Corpus to present the accused in court and handed over the investigation to the Ahmedabad crime branch.
Before fleeing, the man sold his factory in Naroda for ₹80 lakh. It was also suspected that he had illegally escaped to foreign land.
Inspector JH Sindhav, who was investigating the case, received a tip-off about the accused being in Surat’s Kamrej with his children.
Crime branch’s covert operation
As Kamrej is a vast area, the police team disguised themselves as balloon sellers, street food vendors, salesmen, and government field officials to reach the accused.
Finally, they located his address and nabbed him. The children's custody was taken, and the accused was presented in the high court.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (crime), Ahmedabad, Chaitanya Mandlik, said, “The accused did not send both the children to school to study to avoid the police and used to homeschool them. He was currently living in a live-in with another girl who also had two children.”
“For daily expenses, he used the funds he got from the factory sale. As both the children were away from their mother for a long time, psychological assistance will be taken if needed,” Mandlik added.
At present, no arrests have been made in this case, urging the high court to try to reach a settlement between the two parties.
