Ahmedabad man posing as film director extorts rs 20 lakh from woman

A man from Vasna, Ahmedabad, allegedly posed as a film director and extorted a Rajkot-based woman of ₹20 lakh over two years.

The accused, a resident of Geeta Apartment, near Vasna Bus Station in Ahmedabad, has been identified as Krunal Mayankbhai Machhar alias Dushyantbhai Zaveri. According to the complaint, the 30-year-old woman from Rajkot met him at a Bollywood party in Mumbai, where he introduced himself as a film director and producer.

Following the meeting in August 2022, the two became friends. Machhar claimed he was going through a divorce and sought financial help. In February 2023, the woman moved into a flat in Vasna where they began living together and entered into a relationship.

Machhar claimed he needed ₹5 lakhs to finalise his divorce, prompting the woman to borrow money from a friend and give it to him. He promised to divorce his wife soon and sent the woman back to Rajkot. Later, he reduced contact with her and allegedly threatened to leak their private videos if she didn’t give him more money. He eventually managed to extort over ₹20 lakhs from her.

The police have registered the complaint and have launched a probe into the matter.
