Ahmedabad man strangles wife with fan wire over suspicion of infidelity, booked for murder

A 45-year-old man has been booked for allegedly murdering his wife by strangling her with the electric wire of a ceiling fan at their residence in the Vasna area of Ahmedabad early on Tuesday morning. The incident, reported at Street No. 4, Chamundanagar, has shocked the local community.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s father, Mulubhai Ukabhai Rathod (59), the accused Nareshbhai Bhikhabhai Khimoriya, a mason by profession, had been frequently quarrelling with his wife Meenaben Nareshbhai Khimoriya (40) over false suspicion regarding her character. The couple lived on the ground floor of a rented residence where Meenaben’s parents resided on the second floor.

In his statement to the police, Rathod, who works as a liftman in a commercial building near Parimal Crossroads, said that on the morning of July 15, Nareshbhai came home around 5 am and took Meenaben upstairs to the sitting room on the first floor. A short while later, Rathod's younger son, Hasmukh, arrived from their native village. When Rathod asked his granddaughter Dhruvi (14) to call her mother, the girl returned screaming and terrified, saying her mother was unresponsive.

“When they rushed to the sitting room, they found Meenaben lying motionless on the floor, and her neck was swollen and bruised, with visible bloodstains, and the wire of the electric fan nearby was broken. They immediately called for an 108 ambulance for help,” said the police official.

Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed that Meenaben had died. The police suspect that Nareshbhai strangled her with the wire and fled the scene soon after. According to the FIR, the family had previously intervened in the couple’s domestic disputes several times, hoping to prevent further escalation.

Meenaben, who worked as a housemaid in a nearby bungalow, is survived by her three children—Dhruv (14), Hetakshi (12), and Vishal (9). Her elderly parents had been living with her family for the past four years.

Based on the complaint filed by Rathod, Vasna police have registered a case of murder under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Nareshbhai Khimoriya. A manhunt has been launched to locate the absconding accused, police confirmed.

Officials stated that the statements of eyewitnesses, including Meenaben’s parents, children, and brother Hasmukh, have been recorded, and further investigation is underway.
