Ahmedabad man duped of nearly ₹9 lakh in fake Gandhinagar housing board allotment scam

A 31-year-old man from Ahmedabad has lodged a complaint with the Sola High Court Police Station alleging that he was defrauded of nearly ₹9 lakh by a friend who promised him a house under the Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) housing scheme at a concessional rate.
The complainant, Bhimik Patel, a resident of Chanakyapuri Sector, Ahmedabad, stated in his FIR that he became acquainted with the accused, identified as Chetankumar Himmatbhai Vekaria, through mutual friends in 2023. Patel alleged that Vekaria convinced him and his brother that he had ‘connections’ in GUDA and could secure them low-cost houses under the urban housing scheme.
According to the complaint, Vekaria initially charged small amounts as ‘form fees’ before allegedly producing forged letters and fake allotment documents in the name of GUDA Bhavan, Gandhinagar. Believing the documents to be genuine, Patel said he transferred over ₹8.99 lakh to Vekaria between December 2023 and April 2025, through both online payments and cash.
Patel further alleged that he even received what appeared to be an official allotment letter mentioning a specific flat number, size and registration details, asking him to appear with documents at GUDA Bhavan. However, when Patel and his brother visited the office in April this year, officials confirmed that no such allotment had been made, the letters were not issued by GUDA, and no payments were received in their records.
Tt became clear that the accused had forged GUDA letters and receipts with the sole intention of cheating Then. The accused used false documents as genuine and siphoned off nearly ₹9 lakh.
Police have registered a case against Vekaria under relevant sections of the BNS, including cheating and forgery, and have launched an investigation. Patel’s brother Dhaval, who also transferred money in the alleged fraud, has been cited as a key witness.
