A man with a criminal record died after falling from the fourth floor of a residential building in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area while allegedly trying to escape from police, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Mahavirsinh Sindhav, had recently moved into an apartment in the area. According to police, the incident took place on the night of June 8 after residents of the society complained about a disturbance caused by him.
Police said Mahavirsinh was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and got into an argument with neighbours over an issue. The dispute soon escalated, and residents alleged that he created a ruckus and engaged in a physical altercation. Concerned by the situation, local residents informed the police.
A team from Bopal police station reached the society following the complaint. According to preliminary findings, Mahavirsinh allegedly attempted to flee when he saw the police arrive. While trying to escape from the fourth floor of the building, he reportedly lost his balance and fell to the ground.
He suffered severe head and body injuries in the fall and died at the scene. Senior police officials later reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and are recording statements of residents and eyewitnesses to determine the exact sequence of events.
Investigators said Mahavirsinh had several criminal cases registered against him, including offences related to attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, drug trafficking and NDPS violations.
