A 37-year-old woman from the Vatva area of Ahmedabad has lodged a police complaint against her husband, accusing him of prolonged physical and mental abuse, assault, and threats to life. The case has been registered at the GIDC Vatva Police Station.

Vatva resident Dhaniben Vijaybhai Thanaram in her complaint states that she married Bapunagar resident Vijaybhai Thanaram Medhwaal in 2023.

Dhaniben had earlier been married to Bhagwandas Mathurje Sargara, but the couple divorced in 2021 as per social customs. After meeting Vijaybhai, who belongs to the same community, the two developed a relationship and later married.

She stated said that the couple’s son, Vansh, was born on February 10, 2025. However, soon after his birth, her husband began subjecting her to constant mental and physical torture. “She alleged that since her son was two months old, her husband stopped giving her money for household expenses. Whenever she asked for money, he would beat her and falsely accuse him of infidelity,” said the police official.

Unable to bear the harassment, Dhaniben moved back to her parents’ home in Vatva. However, the alleged abuse did not stop. She told police that her husband would often come there, fight with her, and assault her.

On September 26 and again on October 9, 2025, Vijaybhai allegedly beat her, verbally abused her, and threatened to break her hands and legs, prompting intervention by neighbours. The complaint adds that she had been mentally tortured and assaulted repeatedly over the past six months, which led her to approach the police along with her lawyers.

The GIDC Vatva Police have registered the case under relevant sections of the BNS for assault, criminal intimidation, and cruelty.

Police said a formal inquiry is underway to verify the allegations and record witness statements, including that of a neighbour mentioned by the complainant.
