A 32-year-old man has lodged a complaint with the Meghaninagar police alleging that his in-laws subjected him to repeated verbal abuse and issued death threats following a dispute over the paternity of his newborn child.

A case was registered on April 8. Mohit Nareshkumar Khatna, a resident of Kubernagar, stated that he married Khushi, a resident of Nagpur in Maharashtra, in December 2024 after the two connected through an online matrimonial platform.

Khatna told the police that, following their marriage, his wife moved to Ahmedabad and they lived together. He further stated that she became pregnant in June and was later taken to her parental home in Nagpur in January for delivery.

The complainant alleged that he visited Nagpur after the birth of their daughter on January 28, during which his wife reportedly told him that the child was not his. He claimed that this statement led to tension between the two families.

In his complaint, Khatna further alleged that on February 6, he received a phone call from his mother-in-law, Lalita Mohan Motghare, during which she allegedly used abusive language and issued threats. He also alleged that on March 19, his father-in-law, Mohan Tulsiram Motghare, called him and threatened him with dire consequences, including death, if he visited their residence.

Khatna has also claimed that his in-laws have refused to send his wife back, while continuing to harass him over the phone.

Police officials at Meghaninagar Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint, and an investigation has been initiated.
