Ahmedabad Kalupur Railway Station to get a revamp at the cost of ₹2,400 cr
Updated: Feb 24th, 2024
Ahmedabad’s Kalupur Railway Station, which witnesses around 1.5 lakh passengers daily, is set for a redevelopment with a 35-acre expansion plan at a cost of ₹2,400 cr.
“Kalupur Railway Station will get a revamp in three years. The historic monuments around the station will be protected during the redevelopment works,” said Arpan Awasthi, general manager at the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA).
The redevelopment work will be divided into phases without disturbing train schedules, added Awasthi.
The design of this station has been inspired from New York’s Hudson Highline.
The structure includes bullet trains on the raised level, railway on the ground, and Metro trains under the ground.
The first phase of the redevelopment will begin after getting a green signal from prime minister Narendra Modi.
Multi-modal transport hub
The existing Kalupur railway station will be completely revamped, transforming it into a multi-modal transport hub (MMTH).
A 16-storey multi-modal transport hub will be built where the first six floors will have parking, above which the four to five floors will have the offices, and later all the floors above it will have hotels for passengers.
Moreover, a garden, mall, and elevation road will be built at the new station. Keeping the heritage design as it is, a green space will be provided in a 20-acre area.
A 10-metre-high elevated road will also be constructed connecting Kalupur Bridge to Sarangpur Bridge in order to curb traffic around the station.
The new railway station aims to provide enough room for at least 3 lakh passengers daily.
