Ahmedabad infant death: Man files complaint against wife alleging negligence after child falls into water tank

A two-and-a-half-month-old infant died after allegedly falling into an open water tank at a house in Amraiwadi, with the child’s father filing a police complaint against his wife, accusing her of negligence that led to the tragedy.
As per the police, Deepakbhai Chhaganbhai Makwana (39), a resident of Amraiwadi, stated that the incident took place on the morning of March 27.
Makwana, who works as a machine operator at an industrial unit in Vatva, told the police that he had left home around 8 am for work, while his wife Monika (33) remained at home with their two daughters, 5-year-old and the infant, identified as Vishwa alias Viva.
He said that around 11 am, he had gone to Varsha Gas Agency in Bhaipura to book a gas cylinder when he received a phone call from a neighbour, urging him to return home immediately. On reaching his residence, he found a crowd gathered outside, where neighbours informed him that his infant daughter had fallen into a water tank.
Makwana stated that he rushed the child to L G Hospital on a motorcycle, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.
In his complaint, Makwana alleged that upon questioning his wife, she admitted that she had taken the infant to the terrace around 11 am to switch on the water motor. During this time, the child reportedly slipped from her arms and fell into an open water tank.
He further alleged that instead of immediately seeking help, his wife panicked and, fearing confrontation and blame, closed the lid of the water tank and covered it with an aluminium plate. The complainant claimed that had she raised an alarm and sought assistance from neighbours, the child might have been rescued in time.
The woman later confessed her actions while in distress. Makwana has accused her of negligence, holding her responsible for the death of their daughter.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
