Ahmedabad gets 1,000 electric buses for AMTS, BRTS under PM scheme

Ahmedabad will receive 1,000 electric buses for the city’s AMTS and BRTS services under the PM e-Drive scheme.
As many as 600 9-metre and 100 12-metre electric buses will be allocated to AMTS, while 300 12-metre electric buses will be added to the BRTS fleet.
The process to allocate the buses has been initiated by the authorities.
During a meeting of Janmarg Limited, approval was granted for 1,000 air-conditioned electric buses. These new buses will be introduced in phases during 2026 and 2027.
As part of the Centre’s initiative to promote clean transport, the Ministry of Heavy Industries conducted a joint tender process for major cities across the country under the PM e-Drive scheme, through which Ahmedabad was allotted the 1,000 buses.
According to officials, the buses for AMTS and BRTS will be procured under a Gross Cost Contract model.
The 9-metre AC electric buses will operate at a cost of ₹51.50 per kilometre, while the 12-metre AC electric buses will cost ₹60.80 per kilometre.
