Ahmedabad garba organiser dies by suicide, note mentions financial distress
Inset: deceased Mayank Parmar

An atmosphere of shock prevailed in Ahmedabad after a young garba organiser, who had planned the Galaxy Raas Garba at Vrundavan Party Plot near Hathijan Circle, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday. The incident took place on the ninth night of Navratri, leading to the abrupt cancellation of the garba event.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Mayank Parmar, a resident of Vatva. Parmar, who ran a fabrication shop in Vatva GIDC, was found hanging inside his shop. A suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which he reportedly mentioned financial distress linked to garba ticket sales and a personal loan.

The note also stated that Parmar had borrowed ₹2 lakh from one Amit Panchal for 10 days at an interest rate of 10%, and had handed over two blank cheques to him. The deceased further wrote that he had not sold any advance tickets for the event.

“Mayankbhai had been unmarried and lived with his 75-year-old mother. He had no partners in the garba event and had organised everything by himself for the first time. The note recovered from him suggests possible financial trouble. However, whether the suicide was due to economic pressure or personal reasons will be verified during investigation,” said R M Parmar, police inspector, Vatva GIDC police station.

Family members of the deceased expressed shock and grief, urging police to investigate the circumstances thoroughly. “He seemed worried in recent days, but we never thought he would take such a step,” said Chintan Dodiya, the victim’s nephew.

The Vatva GIDC police have sent the suicide note for forensic examination, and are also analysing the deceased’s call records while recording statements of his family and close associates. Meanwhile, an accidental death report has been filed and further investigation is underway.
