Ahmedabad Customs seize ₹36 lakh worth gold concealed in trolley bag screws at SVPI Airport

Ahmedabad Customs officials on Thursday seized over 350 grams of gold concealed in trolley bag from a passenger who arrived from Dubai. The consignment, valued at ₹36.59 lakh, was intercepted on the basis of specific intelligence provided by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad Zonal Unit.

According to officials, the passenger landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport by SpiceJet flight SG16 from Dubai on August 28. During baggage inspection, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) recovered 353.8 grams of gold concealed ingeniously  to his trolley bags.

The passenger failed to declare the consignment, following which the gold was seized under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

Smuggling of gold from the Gulf has remained a persistent challenge for Customs authorities in Gujarat, with multiple seizures reported at Ahmedabad airport in recent months.
